What do you do to relax? It’s a question I ask all the time in my nutrition clinic, because making time to decompress from the daily stresses and strains can have a profound effect on how you experience the menopause. And yet, you’d be surprised how often it’s met with a slightly awkward pause, as someone tries to remember the last time they consciously made space to relax.

In this final episode of Season 6 of The Happy Menopause, we’re exploring a wonderfully creative and therapeutic way to unwind: sewing. And yes, the health benefits are real, tangible, and backed by research.

I’m joined by two inspiring women – Jenni Smith and Kay Walsh – experienced sewing and quilting teachers based in Yorkshire. They’re passionate about empowering women through creativity, one stitch at a time. Their new book, Menopause Makes, is packed with beginner-friendly projects designed to support your wellbeing during menopause. Tune in to find out how sewing could become your new secret weapon for self-care.

Biography

Jenni Smith and Kay Walsh are experienced sewing and quilting teachers based in Yorkshire, UK, and they’re on a mission to empower women through sewing, one stitch at a time!

They met at tap dancing class in their hometown of Ilkley, in the north of England and as their friendship grew, so did their love of making and a passion to share their skills and enthusiasm with a wider community. For many years they ran a sewing studio and now teach to a global online audience.

In writing Menopause Makes, they are determined to help women navigate the menopause through stitching, inspiring confidence and creativity when both can fall on the back burner. This dynamic duo love teaching both online and in person, and they travel the globe producing online textile workshops for Quiltfolk magazine and produce their own patterns. They have produced the bestselling Quilting with Liberty Fabrics book. Find them on Instagram at @jenniandkaycreate
